Actually...I am waiting to hear the good stories you all tell from the reunion! Sorry I will miss it!!! You're all welcome in ABQ NM!!!! Looking forward to the pics!!! Peg, trying to remember the sponsors on that trip. Mr. Gildroy was one. I remember dancing with him. Remember that dance they took us to and there was a band from Casper?!?!

I would like to know where six kegs of beer went the night of our SP? Or was that just poor math on my account?
My counting could have been way off. It went something like this, 26 kegs before midnight and one after midnight.

Peg Daly (Smith)

I don't remember, I was up on the hill talking with Dicky Cox...Larry says the kegs were in Bobby Suchor's van...hmmmm????

Speaking of terror, what about being a 7th grader at the Junior high? Trying to survive the locker room and after school hazing of the 8th graders, the playground oversight by Mrs. Dillinger, Ecology from Mrs. Landers and her telling us all about the troubles of swallowing gum? Band with Mr. Shanks and sign language with Mr. Kelly?

I remember football practice at the old armory baseball field and Mickey Carr trying to leg tackle Lonnie Alexander {That had to have left a mark}

Pat Chambers

Wow Brian, now you are really making us work hard to remember back to junior high.

Do any of the guys remember PE with Mr. Kelly, where he spent 9 weeks on a gymnastics module, trying to get a bunch of 12 & 13 year old boys to perform a disciplined floor routine? Here is a guy who looked like Swarzenegger, doing summersaults and pirrouettes, and expecting us to follow his lead. He is probably the only guy on the planet who could have pulled that off. Man, I wish we had that one on tape.

Just saw Mr. G today and gave him some lowdown on the reunion. I bet he'll pop in at some point.

Wow - Mrs. Landers' Ecology class - I remember her getting in toruble for putting a bullsnake in Jamice Farmer's desk (those old pull-up top ones....)

Diana, I think the other chaperone on that Bicentennial trip was a somewhat severe-looking (though young)English teacher - Mrs. Reub or something like that? I think there was some fun talk amongst us that she and Mr. Gildroy were "getting together" on the trip...

And you guys we should always remember Mrs. Decker singing "Oh Holy Night" in her best opera voice at the Christmas Assemblies!

What else - Mrs. Iliff's study hall (can't remember her maiden name now - FYI she just retired this year). She was brand new then - I can remember her talking about how we should rename our team from Gillette Camels to Gillette Razorbacks - and the JV teams could be the Trac II's (umm, like the razor if you didn't get it!). She was class sponsor of that year and (I think) organizer of the first and last big car conga-line on homecoming that ended in Gillette's biggest pile-up crash... She's a great lady.

Continuing on the teacher FYI strand, Miss McHaley (sp?) - New social studies teacher when we were juniors or so is still going strong at CCHS as Mrs. Wicks.

Finally - were we the class thant hung the camel from the interstate bridge at Butler-Spaeth, or was that another year????

I remember the snakes in random desks in Mrs. Landers' Ecology class. She'd have everyone play "Russian Roulette" and stick their hands in the desks. I think in my class it was Kim Biggerstaff who was the "lucky one!" I was literally scared to death!

I think you're right, it was Ms. Reub on that Bicenntennial trip!

Funny thing, the reunion committee has commented on Mrs. Decker singing "Oh Holy NIght" as well. The funny things that we all remember!!

Judy Illiff's maiden name was Worth and those of us in her study hall, and journalism called her "the Fort" as in Ft. Worth. She is a great lady and I have enjoyed getting to know her better through the years!

We are hoping several teachers make an appearance sometime during our reunion. If you run into any of them this week, Mark, please let them know!!

By the way, check out Dick Cox's profile...way cool!!! He was the first one to add a video!

My husband laughs so hard we I talk about the "Camels". Some folks just don't get it. So...why were we the Camels?

Anyway....Anyone try their "own experiments" in Mr Bayles' chemistry class? I think I only blew up a few small things. Good times at CCHS!!!

R. J. Welter (Addison)

I still remember how pale Kim was after she grabbed that snake. Glad-ass had no idea how much trouble she had caused with the snake thing. Storm Biggerstaff could have wrung her neck. Wooo-eey.

Chambers!!! good to hear from you. I do remember Mr. Kelly and I also remember either Brian or Jeff Holszer hitting him in the face with a football and we all gasped expecting him to make us all do bear crawl lol. The surprise was that he only said "as you were" and we continued working on a play in football practice. He was one touch guy.

07/28/08 09:39 AM #51

Brad Andrews

Duane did you mean touch or tough?

07/28/08 04:03 PM #52

Deb Rothleutner (Seeman)

R.J., Storm, a rather appropriate name given the circumstances? I, too was in the class when Kim stuck her hand in the desk. I was sitting next to her and thought she was going to go into cardiac arrest she was so scared.

To answer Marks question about the "hanging of Humphrey". It wasn't our class. It was in '82 or '83 that incident happened. I know it wasn't us because I know the perpetrators personally... ;)

I have many "fond" and not so fond memories of being in the now Twin Spruce Jr. High building as 9th graders. I've often felt, in hind site, it was one of the reasons it built so many strong classes in that time period. I don't know how many classes went through that building as a 9th grade only building, but don't you think we thought we were so cool??? LOL. Oh, Brian you talked about Mr. Shanks. How about Mr. Patterson who subbed long term for Mr. Shanks? Remember his tympany mallot he would wield and let loose if the low brass goofed up? Man! He was crazy!

High School memories as so many! As I said in my profile, I was the last car in the infamous homecoming car pile up. My car was the favorite car in the parking lot because the guys, mostly football players, love to pick it up and turn it sideways between two cars so I couldn't get out until the other cars left. Most of the time the two cars I was between were cars MOVED there to be sure I couldn't get out. Mr. Keith had a pretty stern conversation with the those responsible the last time when I had to be someplace and couldn't wait to get out. I honestly didn't mean for him to know but Mrs. Lauer played advocate for me and the cat got out of the bag.

How about hanging out on the drag at Wolf Auto? That was also a famous picking up the car spot.

Okay, enough for now. Looking forward to seeing everyone who will be attending the reunion.

R.J. will you be there???

I must be passive-aggressive because I think the snake story is funny as hell and I had forgot about it all together. You must have been fond of her also RJ.

oops my fingers went out of control. i meant tough lol

07/28/08 09:42 PM #55

Rick Baker

Hey Pat I remember Mr. Kelly and him showing us how to do the shot put (8 lb) indoors and it hitting about halfway up the opposite wall of the gym, then saying that is what he expected us to do. Yea right!!

07/28/08 10:24 PM #56

Pat Chambers

Yeah Rick, Kelley was a very intense man. My favorite story about him was the time in football practice when he was getting very frustrated with the linemen, and jumped down on the ground in a 3-point stance opposite, I believe, Rick Clarke. He proceeded to do a snap count, and plough his face directly into Rick's face-mask, knocking him backward. He then described that as how we should make contact with the opposition, as blood streamed down his face from the huge cut on his nose. You wouldn't see that in today's litigious world.

On another note, does it disturb any of the rest of you as parents, the youth of the coaching staff when we were in school? I think Williams was 24 when he took over the varsity basketball team. I am not sure I would have been very supportive as a parent.

07/28/08 10:30 PM #57

Brian McCormack

As I remember it, they weren't all that supportive. It had to have been out of desperation because of Mr. Macatee's many issues that they needed to replace him quickly and chose Coach Williams.

Have you seen the wrestling video of Dicky Cox's son Tyler? It's awesome! To even think of that move, let alone execute it. Amazing! Check it out on Dick's profile.

I think we were more grown up than Williams. Hmmm, scary.
